Bikram Yoga Meets the RUSH: Race & Urban Scavenger Hunt
For those of you who don’t know what I do when I’m not pretzeling in the hot room, I work for the British Columbia Lung Association and we put on incredible fundraisers for the organization throughout the year. Last year, the Events Team took fundraising to a whole new level and introduced a new breed of fundraiser to the community called the RUSH: Race & Urban Scavenger Hunt. The RUSH is an “Amazing-Race” inspired fundraiser that challenges teams of two to scour the city of Metro Vancouver to complete checkpoint challenges and the fastest team to cross the finish line wins a Trip Around the World.
This year, the BC Lung Association’s Events Team did it all over again on Saturday, June 25th with 300 Rushers. We had worked extremely hard since the beginning of the year to partner up with local businesses as checkpoints and to create new checkpoint challenges to truly test what our Rushers are made out of. With an Events Team that has 3 out of 5 colleagues who are Bikram enthusiasts, was it a surprise that we had a checkpoint at Bikram Yoga Richmond called ‘Bend it Like Bikram’?
At this checkpoint, Rushers had to learn and mimic 3 Bikram poses they saw on a flashcard with some guidance from the Bikram Yoga Richmond instructors, and then they had to relay those poses to their partners. Their partners then had to decipher the poses and figure out the Sanskrit names for completion. And if this sounds easy to you, for sure you’re a Bikram yogi or yogini- our Rushers sure spent some time here figuring out the poses (with a lot fun though).

Lastly, I would like to thank Leah Groves, co-owner of Bikram Yoga Richmond, on behalf of the BC Lung Association’s Events Team for being one of our venue sponsors. As of today, Rushers have raised over $63,000 towards our goal of $75,000 for the organization. As a Bikram student and soon-to-be teacher, I’m proud that the Bikram studios in my city are open to trying new things and giving back to the community. Thank-you, Bikram Yoga Richmond!
Namaste,
Tiffany xoxo
