35 Things about Teaching my First 100 Classes
I publicized my decision to go to Bikram Teacher Training a year ago in March. A year later, I taught my 100th class on March 10th, 2012. Dreams do come true. I’m truly grateful for what I’ve accomplished so far. Here are 35 fun facts about teaching my first 100 classes. 1. I taught my first class on November 28, 2011 (9 days after my Teacher Training graduation). 2. I was so nervous in my first week, I even miscounted out loud: “1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 7, 6, 8…” (I made a joke and told my students that math was never my forte, that’s why I’m teaching yoga.) 3. The first person I knew who came to my class to support me was my fiancé. He came to my 10th class. 4. I taught 14 classes then I stopped teaching for 2 weeks when I went home for the...

That’s (Almost) a Wrap!
Yesterday was not our average day at Teaching Training. We got to experience something so special - a taste of Hollywood inside of our very own yoga bubble. A camera crew along with 3 cameras were filming Bikram Choudhury’s upcoming Bikram Yoga DVD. A 90 minute class was stretched into a 5 hour shoot (and 7 for those who had close-up shots). Yoga celebrities like Joseph Encinia and Yukari Miwa were filming with us as well. In fact, I got really lucky, my mat was just two mats away from Joseph’s. This is it- the final week of Teacher Training. Like I had imagined it to be, it is flying by very quickly. We’re all anxious to go home BUT I know I’ll miss it once it’s over. That’s (almost) a wrap – 5...
Home Stretch
Just 10 more days until graduation, we’ve been here for 52 days and we’ve completed 81 classes. This is the home stretch of my training – we should be embracing it but I miss home and body needs a break from stretching. I’m tired of eating the same meals prepared in my hotel room. My skin is irritated by the constant sweating. My body looks strong but I feel like a 27-year-old trapped inside an 80-year-old’s body – that’s how stiff it feels! I’m losing my concentration at lectures. I just want to sleep on my own bed. I’m also tired of taking two showers a day. I’m sick of wearing the same clothes over and over again. I’m sorry for puking my negativity all over this post but I just want to get out of...
My Teacher Training Must-Haves
Here are my personal must-haves at Teaching Training. I’ve come this far into training – seven weeks deep to be exact – don’t know where I would be without them! 1. Multi-Clothespin Hanger Don’t underestimate what a $2 multi-clothespin hanger from a dollar store can do. This little angel has saved so much space in my hotel room. I use it twice a day – I hand wash my yoga clothes immediately after every class. 2. Acai Emergen-C”s The bulk of my electrolyte requirement is met through Emergen-C’s. These are hands down the best tasting electrolytes. It comes in an effervescent powder and you pour it into your water. It gives my water a nice kick of fizz after class (I crave fizzy drinks here – don’t...
